LUMINOUS
Big Sur Goldsmiths
March 2nd - April 1st, 2024

Meet The Artists Saturday, March 2nd from 2 - 5:30PM.

SHIBUMI is pleased to present LUMINOUS featuring the work of BIG SUR GOLDSMITHS. "Big Sur" likely conjures up images of expansive blue skies, steep cliffs, and crashing waves. However, with LUMINOUS we invite you to think of glowing cabochon stones, rustic textures, and master craftsmanship.

Founded in the 1960's by Karl Lee, BIG SUR GOLDSMITHS is now a family affair. Passed down to Karl's son, Ali Lee, and daughter-in-law, Carrie Armstrong, the couple first met when Carrie was working as Karl's assistant goldsmith. Today, their story might give one the impression of this couple in the woods making jewelry against nature's backdrop, birds chirping. As romantic as this picture seems, Ali and Carrie have skillfully honed the technical and often difficult craft of jewelry making. Together, they continue Karl's legacy.

BIG SUR GOLDSMITHS' designs range from elegantly cut cabochon rings highlighting glowing stones, to whimsical shield rings reminiscent of the architecture of Antoni Gaudi or bits of a Gustav Klimt painting. There is something about their artistry that feels different. Every ring you try on feels like silk sliding over your finger.

Please join us on Saturday, March 2nd,  2-5 PM. Ali and Carrie will be in attendance, bringing a wide selection of their work newest work as well as some of their gorgeous hand-cut stones.

Please make an appointment if you are interested in viewing their stone collection.

A card was tucked into their work when they sent it, sharing a quote aligned with their lives and philosophy of their business.

Let the beauty of what you love be what you do. — Rumi

BIG SUR GOLDSMITHS will also be bringing a selection of beautifully hand-cut loose stones. Come see if something speaks to you.
