MEET & GREET WITH ERIC SILVA
Saturday, June 17th from 1-5 PM

SHIBUMI GALLERY presents MODERN PRIMITIVES, our next show featuring the work of Eric Silva Jewelry and Robert Brady Sculpture.

The works in this show capture the raw creativity of these artists.  Eric and Robert create pieces using natural elements and found objects combined with non-precious and semi-precious materials.  Historical references to time and other cultures permeate throughout their work.

If 'Primitive Modernism' were a movement, these two would both be members.

ERIC SILVA is an L.A.-based designer. His work reflects an individual artistic viewpoint that combines both natural and industrial materials in a small, thoughtfully constructed space. His designs highlight the often-overlooked details found in daily life. He believes in the simplicity and integrity of the materials themselves.

'My jewelry is about self-examination, revealing pieces of myself through artistic creations. I draw my inspiration from the often-overlooked simplicity of beauty found in the ordinary.'

ROBERT BRADY's career spans over 50 years. He has rigorously explored figurative abstraction with a unique style utilizing imagery, form, and color to convey messages. Brady’s early career began as a potter; his versatility and skill with materials led him to pursue wood sculpture. Brady describes the initial shift in media as a “risk, but something which made sense due to the warm and receptive nature of both materials.” Today, Brady works effortlessly between clay, wood, bronze and works on paper.

Robert Brady has lectured and taught workshops nationally and internationally and was Professor of Art at California State University, Sacramento, for 33 years. In addition to being widely exhibited in galleries across the country, his works can be found in public collections at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, di Rosa Preserve in Napa, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Oakland Museum of Art and San Francisco Museum of Art.

Robert is the owner of TRAX GALLERY in Berkeley.  You can visit the contemporary ceramics gallery just a few blocks away from SHIBUMI, on 5th Street, from October - May.  Robert and his wife Sandy Simon split their time between Berkeley and Minnesota.
