FEAST
Kirsten Muenster and Josie Iselin
May 6th - June 5th, 2023

Artist Reception with wine: Saturday, May 13th from 4-7 PM

SHIBUMI GALLERY presents the organic architecture of Kirsten Muenster Jewelry alongside Josie Iselin's large-scale prints of the wondrous world of seaweed.

Kirsten will premier her 10K gold work with luminous accent stones and beautiful, hand-carved botanical forms.

Josie’s exploration of seaweed and kelp synthesize the scientific stories of our coast, bringing thoughtfulness and stewardship to this extraordinary place of discovery.

This May we also celebrate spring and honor mothers everywhere. After the rainy winter, we welcome this lush work as a feast for our eyes.

KIRSTEN MUENSTER’s designs explore the symbiotic relationships and curiosities of the natural world. She finds inspiration in nature’s diverse forms, elegant gestures and ornamental oddities.

Kirsten Muenster is an artist, sculptor and curator of fine objects; a fourth generation metalsmith and jeweler. Nature, unusual materials, ancient artifacts and crafting techniques inspire her work and process.

JOSIE ISELIN is a photographer, author and designer of books, with new projects always in development in her San Francisco studio, Loving Blind Productions. Her books focus on those forms in nature we find at hand; in particular at the beach. Her newest book, The Curious World of Seaweed features visually rich narratives of sixteen iconic West Coast seaweeds and kelps.

She is the co-director of a collaborative known as Above/Below, working to bring the recognition afforded the forests on land to the kelp forests below the ocean’s surface.

Josie holds a BA in Visual and Environmental Studies from Harvard and an MFA from San Francisco State University. She currently teaches in the School of Design at SFSU.
