SHIBUMI GALLERY is pleased to announce Scribe, a show featuring hand-engraved work by Maiden Voyage/Megan Rugani and Chris Neff.

For this Valentine's Day we are showcasing hand engraving, an ancient tradition that is quickly becoming a dying art.  Hand engraving is a highly specialized craft that few jewelers today have the training, experience and unique skill set to master.   Megan and Chris’ use of both abstract and literal hand-engraved symbols and lettering make these pieces incredibly special and personal to the wearer.

Megan Rugani will feature many of her own designs from her latest collection.  Her edgy style crosses over with her admiration of the tattoo world.  She is also open to working with clients to create custom engravings.

Chris Neff is a self-taught hand engraver and will feature his Hobo nickels; small-denomination coins he has modified with engravings.  He will also be showing his engraved jewelry and can be commissioned for custom lettering or monogramming pieces.

Shibumi Gallery is offering our clients the unique opportunity to meet with these artists, see their work or have something personal designed for yourself or a loved one.

MAIDEN VOYAGE / MEGAN RUGANI recently began working in gold not only because of the value of the material, but also because of its physical properties of warmth and light reflection. Within her new collection she explores engraving methods which emulate the technique of faceting gemstones to achieving a mesmerizing effect and play of light.  She uses the hand engraving of symbols to sentimentalize the pieces with her own emotional, introspective and meditative experiences.  Her work aims to remain visceral and existential yet utilitarian with an emphasis on shape, design and structure.

Megan was last year’s winner of The Jewelry Loop Project for emerging designers.

CHRIS NEFF grew up in the rolling hills of the mid-west.  While employed at the local Quickie Mart following high school, his best friend's father stopped in and asked him what he really wanted to do. Chris responded that he wanted to be a jeweler.  He soon found himself with a loan and on a plane to Revere Academy in San Francisco where he trained as a fine jeweler. He's worked as a goldsmith ever since.

Chris runs his shop in San Francisco where he not only makes his own work, but is also sought out by other jewelers for his stone setting, engraving and fabrication skills. When Chris is not working long hours at his studio you can find him tending to his plants or with his best feline friend, Evie, also known as Squirt to her friends.
